As a result of a conversation with an Asian newspaper reporter at the 2013 Southport Flower show, we were invited to have a guided tour of Asian allotments in Blackburn.
We readily accepted the invitation and on Saturday, 24th August, Hazel Anderton, Geoff and Margaret Fletcher, Anne-Marie Hutson and Peter Wiseman visited Blackburn.
We had a most enjoyable afternoon in the company of Nazir Musa, the journalist, his friend Chaz and Ismael Lorgat, member of the allotment committee. Besides visiting the allotment we were also given a guided tour of the local mosque, enjoyed refreshments in the form of samosas and chai in Ismael's home and visited the local shops which sold exotic vegetables, fish and spices.
